DMX On Iyanla: Fix My Life – Full Episode [VIDEO]

DMX needs help, but you probably knew that. To kick off a new season of Iyanla: Fix My Life, life coach Iyanla Vanzant went to Yonkers and did her damnedest to help the troubled rapper get his life together.

Off top, you knew ish would hit the fan when X allegedly reached out to Vanzant because he needed help with his addiction to woman, not drugs. Seriously.

“The next 90 minutes is not about a multiplatinum selling Hip-Hop artist or a celebrity. It’s about a deeply wounded man in a lot of pain. This show, is about the ravages of a longterm drug problem,” said Vanzant at the start of the segment. “I often say, I am not my brothers keeper, I am my brother. Earl Simmons, also known as DMX is my brother. He’s our brother. Earl, I pray you are watching, I support you, and I call forth your healing.”

Needless to say Dark Man X, his estranged wife, Tashera Simmons, and his son Xavier, as well as Vanzant, made for some fiery television, thanks to Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network. But was this helpful or exploitive?

Decide for yourself and watch the full episode below. Let us know what you think in the comments.

YOUR SHOW ON DMX WAS HEART BREAKING FOR ME.
YOUR JUDGEMENT ON DMX MADE ME SEE YOU IN A NEGTIVE LIGHT.
I DO NOT HAVE A DRUG OR ALCHOL ADDICTION. I HAVE A LOVE WHO IS.
DMX OPENED HIS HEART TO YOU.
YOUR RESPONSE ABOUT HIM TO NEVER SPEAK OF IT AGAIN WAS ONE OF THE MOST HATEFUL ACT A PERSON COULD DO TO ANOTHER HUMAN.
HE HAD A STORY TO TELL, JUST AS HIS SON HAD A STORY TO TELL.
YOU CASTERATED DMX AND HONERED HIS SON.
I WILL NEVER WATCH YOUR SHOW AGAIN.
YOU ARE A VERY HARMFUL PERSON.
EVEN THO DMX HAS ADDICTION. I RESPECT HIM FOR NOT TAKING YOUR NEGATIVE ATTUIDE FOR SHOWING HIM NO RESPECT, AS YOU TOLD HIS SON TO SHOW RESPECT.
YOU RIPPED APART A FATHER SON REALATION.
THE SON HAS TO TAKE HIS FATHER AS HE IS. LOVE HIM WITH NO CONDITIONS ,AS DMX LOVE HIM UNCONDITIONALLY. GOD BLESS YOU DMX. I AM PRAYING FOR YOU IN YOUR HARD JOURNEY. WE ALL HAVE OUR CROSS TO BEAR.

I really don’t like how Iyanla played DMX.
They set him up from the get go. For people that don’t know where DMX
has come from they wouldn’t understand him. The man is troubled but he
is a very sincere dude. When you grow up not knowing
your father and all you see around you is struggle and pain you will
have a very different out look on life. She was not trying to help him
our her son. He like many other black man have been abandoned when all
they really need is love and true support to get them where they need to
    be in life

I disagree. I think she approached him in a very loving manner, but he was unnecessarily offended. At the end she did yell at him and shouldn’t have lost control like that, but that was only after his constant trying of her patience. She never said anything offensive to him up until that point. The truth of the matter is, he suffers from a disease like she said. All we can do as fans and supporters of DMX is hope that he will overcome this disease before it destroys him.

      • G.P.

I disagree. She did not approach him in a loving manner. At the beginning, is where it started. “Are you high?” “Don’t ever tell that story that way again” “Are you a Blessing to yourself?” “Really?” And exactly how was he trying her patience? It was the other way around. Remember, its not what you say, its how you say it.

    • Danita

I wholeheartedly disagree. There are many people who have had lots of pain and no father or father figure in the home that are doing good. Yes I do say thats some of the reason he may be Like he is, but not all of it. Iyanla Vanzant did a wonderful job at trying to help him, but he has to want the help. He needs Jesus, detox, a good holy ghost deliverance service, to change his surroundings, much prayer and support. That’s the only way he will get better.

Iyanla started out directing the son not to judge his dad and then somehow the interview went left (terribly wrong). Xavier is obviously more emotionally mature than his dad. It should have ended at their embrace. It spoke volumes. It was not the time to go back into the painful past, Remember, DMX is a hurt little kid as well. I have faith in iyanla that she will correct her error. I believe that she has a gift and although she started on the right path with the son which brought him to tears, her emotions got the best of her ( it happens to the best of us) Come on, Iyanla! DMX part two!!

  • DC

Powerful interview, Iyanla did lose her cool but from a therapist stand point, clearly DMX is a very ill man, sometimes when a illness is so bad a person’s views become distorted DMX is afraid to let go of the crutch of drugs and negative thoughts. This has been his way of coping for so many years and there his mind lies in that state of “comfort” This is why it will be an ongoing battle for him until he realizes these outlets are not a positive response to his pain and paranoia he will continue to feel like a victim and that people should respect that he’s a victim of hard life and suffering. Iyanla took her own self respect and lowered it just so DMX could have his way and she became angered. Iyanla was there to help but you can see how a persons own destructive behavior can anger those around him who are trying to help with good intentions, look at his son and his wife, look how it has effected them. I believe amends can be made and a part two can come out of this, DMX has a long road ahead of him hope it gets resolved and praying for him and his family

Tashera had a hand in turning Xavier against his father.

    DMX loves his son.

    • G.P.

      Yes He Does!

i totally agree with Guest… Set up.. it takes a conscious mind to see the wrong all across the board in this interview. IV apparently was way out of her league and should stick to the June Cleavers of the world. She was defensive and judgmental of him from the beginning to end and did not show him an ounce of compassion. Black men get targeted from everywhere. I have a whole new look on her now. She can beat it!

  • Liz

Iyanla – When you Love, you love unconditionally. DMX cannot change for his Son or his family. He has to want to change for himself. Xavier just need to have a relationship with his Father. The only conditons he can put on the relationship is that when they are toghether it is just them, not women, drugs or anything else. Iyanla allowed herself to make it personal at one point.

I feel that she should have left the relationship between DMX and his Son. Yes Iyanla it is your show, but it was not about you. It was about getting the help for DMX. Everything does not follow the same pattern, you have to know when to allow the issue to play out sometimes. Once Iyanla stopped talking, the two was able to start the healing. I feel she should have let the Son speak and not push him the way she wanted it to be.

Iyanla – at the end you should have remembered it is not what you wanted. You should have left it in God’s Hands. I still believe in what you are doing, but just remember all situations are different and you cannot make it play out the way you want it to be. Like I said it is your show, but we are talking about real people, with real deep issues. I believe Xavier need to continue to love his Father unconditionally and allow God to do the rest.

She did tell him to love him unconditionally, without judgment and understand his disease. However, he can love from a distance, he demonstrate tough love. He was okay with putting that condition on his relationship with his father, it was necessary for the vitality of his life. He wanted to know his father in a clean health sober way. He was crying out to his father to change. It was heartbreaking to watch, but DMX is not in that position. DMX tried to manipulate his son when he said the next time you will see me is at my funeral if you put that condition on our relationship. And I am glad his son didn’t fall for that. Obviously, you must have never dealt with addiction and understanding that is a hard decision to make. I have witnessed mothers make that type of decision with their daughters. Sometimes, someone else’s pain will kill you! I pray that God continues to have His hand on DMX, and that he provides healing and comfort to his family.

    DMX has an illness, and until he admits that, no one can help him recover. God helps those who help themselves, DMX needs to understand that and start the healing process, before he kills himself. Saw the show, saw the anger and hurt in this man. praying for him.;

Iyanla did not make DMX look bad…he did a BANG UP job of doing that HIMSELF.

  • ATL404

for anyone to think Tashera helped turn their son against X that is unfair to say…kids see and retaint a lot we don’t know what they boy saw and heard growing up, BUT I DIDNT LIKE WHEN SHE SAID DONT SPEAK ON IT AGAIN IN THIS WAY…THAT DIDNT SEEM RIGH TO ME. But I do think that HE HAS A SERIOUR PROBLEM BUT REALLY DONT WANT ANY HELP X SEEMS TO LIKE LIVING IN HIS PAIN…it gives him a excuse to act a damned fool!!!!!!

  • MiggyT21

You Dr. Phil wanna be how are you going to even begin and fix a relationship when you view one party in such a negative manner. Xavier said “He taught me to look a man in his eyes, saying please and thank you.” Then 2 minutes later you asked the boy is there anything good he did? You didn’t want to help X you used him to get your ratings up! Yeah as a person DMX isn’t the best role model but as Father he did what he could.I have no respect for that lady or xavier this was a publicity stunt and DMX is right it was b******t. LOVE IS UNCONDITIONAL! Best thing said in the entire episode!

    • G.P.

      Hey MiggyT21…. EXACTLY!!!I She’s actually a wanna be Oprah!

I disagree with anyone who thinks that DMX was set up, but I do respect other opinions. DMX has a classic case of denial that comes from drug addiction, and he doesn’t want to be accountable for his actions, and just because you have unconditional love for someone does not mean you have to accept their rude and disrespectful behavior. In my opinion I believe he has had alot of YES men around him, so he isn’t used to anyone calling him on his behavior! All his aggression is probably how he tries to intimidate people, but Iyanla wasn’t having it. Also at the end of the day he reached out to the show to get help from her which he had to sign a release to be aired. He also obviously never seen her previous shows or knows nothing about her, she helps you to face your problems right from the root. Also to say that she doesn’t understand his upbringing because of how he grew up is wrong. If anyone knows anything about Iyanla would know that she grew up with a very similar upbringing of abandonment and abuse. I pray that he can get to his rock bottom and allow God to work on him. There is always hope for everyone.

For all the years that DMX has abused drugs, these drugs are taking him down a path of deep denial. Iyanla was doing what she does as a professional and she’s good at it. DMX needs tough love, not someone whos’s gonna coddle him and shrink back every time he barks. Having Xavier on this show should have been a wake up call for DMX, but he proved to be quite resistant. That was the drugs telling him what to do, AGAIN! He needs detox and he needs it NOW! Apparently, the only way that he’s going to get some straight clean time is if he’s incarcerated for an extended amount of time or rehab. The drugs are telling him that he can handle it on his own, but he cant. I pray that this Iyanla / Xavier encounter planted a seed that will find it’s way into his spirit and convince him to d something different. Insanity is doing the same thing, expecting different results. # SupportDMX.

I DISAGREE WHEN SHE STATED TO NOT TELL THE STORY THAT WAY, WHAT SHE MEANT BY THAT IS AS HE WAS TELLING THE STORY HOW EMOTIONALLY CHOKED UP HE BECAME AS HE WAS TELLING IT AND 2 NOT CONTINUE TO REFLECT ON THE PAIN ,Im DISTURBED ABOUT HIS BEHAVIOR TOWARDS HIS SON HE COULD HAVE AT LEAST SAID HE’
LL TRY ,BUT IT’S LIKE HE DON’T WANT TO RECONCILE HIS DIFFERENCES HE’S CONTENT WITH THE WAY THINGS ARE, .I MOSTLY FEEL 4 THE WIFE AND KIDS WHO HAD 2 ENDURE THIS ABUSE …I QUITE SURE HE’S BEEN ON MANY INTERVIEW AND WAS HIT WITH THE MOST UNIMAGINABLE QUESTION ,SO HE’S NOT NEW 2 THIS AND IT STILL DOESN’T CALL FOR ALL THAT DISRESPECT ….

  • TYE-TYE

PRAYS GO OUT 2 HIM AND HIS FAMILY THOUGH….
