Welcome to wondaland. Janelle Monáe gets an epic Erykah Badu assist for her futuristically regal Alan Ferguson -directed video for “Q.U.E.E.N.”

Horns and percussion kick heavy in this soul soiree, proving why these two artists rule the roost when it comes to new school Soul. As the mad scientist alter ego “Badoula Oblongota,” Erykah takes a window seat in this function, and Janelle shines as the Queen Cyborg. Janelle closes out the track with a rap monologue where she schools us to her alternate universe in which she defies every label. “Are we a lost generation of our people? /Add us to equations but they’ll never make us equal/She who writes the movie owns the script and the sequel/So why ain’t the stealing of my rights made illegal?,” she spits.

That, and the booty don’t lie.

For those wanting to get down with the cyborg movement, unfortunateyy Janelle Monáe’s new album, The Electric Lady, does not have an official release date yet. Until then, watch the video for “Q.U.E.E.N.” below.
