Deric “D-Dot” Angelettie (also known as The Mad Rapper) has deep roots in Hip-Hop and is partly responsible for the success of a few noteworthy artist. One happens to be the incomparable Kanye West. Unfortunately, the two no longer have a working relationship.
D-Dot discussed his falling out with his former protege, how he got West’s publishing back and more in a recent sit down with Juan Epstein (Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds).
Many assume the Angelettie’s beef with West stems from him aligning with Roc-A-Fella, but such wasn’t the case. D-Dot actually wasn’t in a position to sign the G.O.O.D. Music head honcho as a rapper, because his label Columbia Records were only interested in the Chicago native’s production skills. In turn, he respected the then young beat maker’s decision to leave his tutelage to chase his dreams.
“The beef came in when he started using this term called ‘ghost producing,’ which I hate — which I felt was disrespectful,” said Angelettie, because West received credit for each of their collaborations.
“Ghost means what Ron Lawrence did for Hurby “Love Bug” [Azor]; meaning you get the beat and you do not get a credit, you don’t get a check, you don’t get a piece of publishing. That’s ghost producing.”
