Now in its eighth year, the annual DC Loves Dilla tribute concert and fundraiser has become known as one of the Nation Capital’s premier events. This year, veteran trio De La Soul will headline alongside The Root’s Black Thought and composer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson at the historic Howard Theatre 0n Wednesday (July 10) in honor of the late James “J DIlla” Yancey

Joining them will be some of Washington’s best musical talent. Multi-talented artists Oddisee, Muhsinah, Wes Felton and Yahzarah are all slated to take the stage in tribute to the Detroit producer. Rising songbird Jennah Bell and Grammy-award winning musician James Poyser will also be part of the festivities in what is billed as a virtual performance.

Just announced, singer-songwriter Bilal will also grace the event as one of many special guests who will appear throughout the evening. All of the acts will be backed by Jon Laine and the Players. Between sets, attendees will hear the sounds of local DJs Roddy Rod and 2-Tone Jones. DJ Mick Boogie will also preside over the tables during the evening.

De La Soul will be releasing their highly anticipated album, You’re Welcome, this coming fall. Their last set, The Grind Date, was released in the fall of 2004.

Working in collaboration with the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and PULSE DC, Heineken, Hi Arts, The Hi Fi Collective and other sponsors, the event will raise funds for the J Dilla and Lupus DMV Foundations.
