Spike Lee Sued For George Zimmerman Tweet [VIDEO]

Spike Lee is facing legal action for tweeting out an incorrect address of what he had believed to be the address of George Zimmerman.

Via NYDaily News:

During the Trayvon Martin saga, the emotions of the African-American festered with rage and sadness and an elderly Florida couple feel that he unfairly had their well-being targeted to potential attacks.

In the wake of the Feb. 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman, Lee posted what he thought was the address of the accused shooter which he obtained from one of his Twitter followers. The Sanford, Fla., home in question, however, turned out to belong to Elaine and David McClain, who had nothing to do with the crime. “My youngest son, his last name is Zimmerman and his middle name is George,” Elaine McClain told Orlando’s WKMG TV.

There was no dollar amount sought for the damages in the lawsuit, filed late last week in Florida Circuit Court, but The Smoking Gun reports that Lee’s attorney estimates the lawsuit’s value at $1.2 million

Lee and the McClain’s reached a settlement out of court for reportedly $10,000 but due to continued negligence, they’re out for more money.

It’s ironic that Lee recently raised $1.3M for his kickstarter project and he’s being sued for a figure in that neighborhood for the damages and duress the couple claimed the ordeal has caused them.

The veteran director later apologized and admitted his wrongdoing in the matter. Hit the gallery to see the McClain’s interview with the media and Spike Lee’s interview with Oprah Winfrey where he addressed the situation in full.
