Gene Simmons of KISS fame, who looks more like a budget Johnny Cash by the day, recently sat down with Rolling Stone and flat-out dissed Hip-Hop music. Brooklyn veteran Talib Kweli came armed with the clap back, taking to Twitter to voice his displeasure of Simmons’ words.

First, let’s go back to the comments that stoked the fires. In the Rolling Stone piece, Simmons drops the following nuggets:

“I am looking forward to the death of rap,” the Kiss singer and reality-TV star tells Rolling Stone. “I’m looking forward to music coming back to lyrics and melody, instead of just talking.

“Rap will die,” he says. “Next year, 10 years from now, at some point, and then something else will come along. And all that is good and healthy.”

“I don’t have the cultural background to appreciate being a gangster,” he says. “Of course that’s not what it’s all about, but that’s where it comes from.

On Saturday, Talib Kweli made his ire known and even took some time to educate listeners that Hip-Hop is very vibrant but that “lazy” individuals don’t dig for the gold as they used to.

“[H]iphop has saved countless lives. How dare he wish it dead. So would it be fair to wish him dead, or nah?” tweeted Kweli. The rapper spent much of the day capping at angry KISS and rock fans that tried to troll him into an online war of words and consistently handed out ether bombs.
