Miami rapper Pitbull has been given quite an honor as he was presented with the Key to the City from his mainstay of Miami. With such an achievement, the Latino rapper and fans alike can officially refer to him as being “Mr. 305.”

Pitbull took some time to speak and give his reactions after receiving such an accolade in life.

“I can’t help but keep staring at it, because it’s something I’ve worked so hard for,” Pitbull said, looking down at the gold key. “I’m very passionate about Miami.”

The rapper, real name Armando Christian Perez, was given the award Wednesday morning by Miami Commissioner Thomas Regalado.

“Pitbull not only lives in Miami, but he’s been traveling the country and the world sharing a positive message of Miami,” Regalado announced. “So, we should honor not only the dignitaries that visit, but those individuals who make a positive impact on the city.”

It makes sense for someone such as Pitbull to be awarded with such as he has stood behind Miami when he first emerged into the rap scene in 2004 with his debut album M.I.A.M.I. (Money Is A Major Issue). He also incorporated the city into his second album El Mariel as the title made reference to the boat that transported fictional movie character Scarface to Miami and the real life occurrences when Cuban migrated to the U.S. in droves during the late 70’s and early 80’s.

In related news, Pitbull is set to perform for MySpace Music’s “Release” Concert Series in Miami later today at 10 p.m. at The Fountainbleau. This installment of the concert will serve as a prelude to his new album, Rebelution, which drops August 31. The rapper, who has been presented with the Billboard Latin Music Awards’ first ever “Latin Digital Download Artist of the Year” will perform hits from his present as well as his past. “Hotel Room Service” and “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) are cuts expected during the performance which are also the running singles that are featured on the upcoming project.

In preparation for the album, he will also start his worldwide Rebelution Tour on September 18 with the first stop hitting Valley Center, CA at the Harrah’s Casino and end in Charlotte, NC at the Fillmore on October 23 before setting overseas to hit Europe.
