Adele’s “Someone Like You” Makes Billboard History On The Way To No. 1

We know British singer/songwriter Adele isn’t Hip-Hop by any means but we still dig her.

With arguably the best album of 2011 both commercially (3.3 million sold) and critically in her LP, 21, of course she’s on our radar.

According to <a href=”http://www.youtube.com/v/NAc83CF8Ejk?version=3&hl=en_US”>http://www.youtube.com/v/NAc83CF8Ejk?version=3&hl=en_US” target=”_blank”>Billboard, Adele’s chart topping year made even more history this week:

With Adele’s leap from No. 19 to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week with “Someone Like You,” the singer achieves the biggest jump to No. 1 in the chart’s 53-year history that wasn’t spurred by the release of a single.

Every other larger vault to No. 1 in Hot 100 history came as a result of a single arriving to the market. That includes the chart’s greatest jump, Kelly Clarkson’s 97-1 leap in 2009 with “My Life Would Suck Without You.”

Without question, Adele’s performance at the MTV Video Music Awards helped push “Someone Like You” up to No. 1 (she did that).

Congrats to Adele for an amazing year.
