Fan Throws Banana At Black Hockey Player…Fined $200

We already knew there weren’t too many brothers in hockey, and the few that are have to deal with blatant racism as if we were still in 1960. In a pre-season game this year, Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds had a banana thrown at him by a Detroit Red Wings fan.

Christopher Moorhouse plead guilty to engaging in a prohibited activity and was fined $200 for throwing a banana at Simmonds during the  game in London, Ontario. According to The New York Daily NewsMoorhouse, who was charged with engaging in a prohibited activity, could have been hit with a more serious offense or even a hate crime.

“You have to demonstrate and be motivated by hatred,” London police chief Brad Duncan told reporters not long after the game. “Although the banana did hit the ice, it did not interfere with the play so it didn’t meet the mischief threshold.”

Hockey has never been known to play fair with its Black athletes who have to be alert at all times and just can’t play the game.

Who can forget the February 21, 2000 attack of Vancuver Cancucks Donald Brashear by Boston Bruins Marty McSorley.  To be Black in this sport, you have to have eyes in the back of your head, too.
