Within the past two days we’ve seen two very posterizing dunks by LeBron James & Blake Griffin. Naturally it made us think of which five dunks would you put into the ‘Top 5 In-Game Dunks of All Time’? While it sounds simple, there can be arguments made for at least 25 other dunks to be mentioned in the Top 5. Then of course you have the difference in eras, so just to pay homage, we’ll start off with a couple vintage dunks, then a couple honorable mentions.
Enjoy the show.
Dr. J’s ‘Rock The Cradle’ over Michael Cooper
Shawn Kemp over Alton Lister
Kevin Johnson over “Hot Rod” Williams
John Starks over The Bulls
Honorable Mentions
Blake Griffin over Timofey Mozgov*
*- This was more of a very hard, throw-in (pause), but was still crazy!
LeBron James over Tim Duncan
Kobe Bryant over Ben Wallace
Tracy McGrady over Shawn Bradley
#5 Shaq over David Robinson
The fact that David Robinson put up two hands to block the shot vs. Shaq’s one, the fact that this All-Star game was on The Admiral’s home-court of San Antonio, and add the reaction to the dunk, makes it top 5.
Scottie Pippen over Patrick Ewing
The sheer disrespect factor is what makes this #4. Pippen completely disregarded Ewing’s existence in life, and the hatred of the Bulls vs. Knicks was completely felt in this play. Ewing getting mad, made it even funnier!
#3 Vince Carter over Alonzo Mourning
The extension on this dunk, add the crossover, and the fact that Alonzo Mourning LOVED to contest dunks as much as Patrick Ewing, but still ends up on a poster, are the reasons for this one.
#2 Michael Jordan over Patrick Ewing
Looks like Pat cracks the top 3 of this list, for all of the wrong reasons. Chalk this one up to the G.O.A.T. factor, and the moment in the game. Again, heated Bulls vs. Knicks rivalry, in a clutch moment in the series.
#1 Vince Carter over Fredric Weis
I don’t believe there will ever be a dunk, better than this one, EVER! Regardless if this was done in the Olympics, or not, Vince Carter is 6’6″, and Frederic Weis is 7’2″, and VC completely jumps OVER him. It’s one thing to dunk on someone, but to completely jump over them, is another story.
As I said in the beginning, I’m sure there are dunks that you can make an argument for (or against), such as the Taj Gibson dunk over Wade, Kobe over Yao, Amare over Olowakandi, so it’s understandable if you don’t agree. Sometimes it comes down to the moment in the game, talent level, and overal reaction to the dunk, which may put it over the top. But which dunks would you have chosen for your top 5? Let us know. – @TheKidSkoob
