The estate of the late Malcolm X and his wife, Betty Shabazz, hasn’t been taking care of their accounts payable responsibilities. According to the New York Post, a New York City Mini Storage location is after them for an unpaid bill, which has been neglected since December.

Mini Storage is owed $2,447 for the unit, and the contents were in danger of being auctioned off yesterday, but a rep for the estate stepped in just in time. They now have been until Aug. 20 to take care of the bill. “The notices were going to the wrong party,” rep, L. Londell McMillan explained of the financial mishap. “It’s a non-issue. The administrator who handles [the bills] was out of the country. The storage [facility] is being paid.”

As for the contents of the unit, they do not belong to the lauded former Nation of Islam leader, or his wife. “There is nothing valuable to the estate in [the storage unit],” McMillan added. “Those things are in various intellectual property holdings, and would not be in mini-storage . . . All is well, there’s no issue.”

This isn’t the first time that the Shabazz family has had issues with paying their storage bills. In 2002, daughter Malika failed to pay a $600 bill, resulting in valuable items belonging to her father being auctioned off on the A&E show Storage Wars.

Brother Malcolm would not be happy about these turn of events.
