It’s no big shock that some people weren’t happy with President Obama earning a second term, but a group of youngsters in Mississippi took their frustrations to the extreme.

Hundreds of students at Ole Miss gathered for an anti-Obama protest on campus which turned destructive. The angry collective are said to have shouted racial slurs about the president and Black people in general, threw rocks, launched into chants in response to the commander in chief’s defeat over conservative candidate, Mitt Romney, and set fire to an Obama Biden 2012” campaign sign.

University police responded to a pulled fire alarm on campus as the crowd gathered in front of several dorms for the protest. Authorities were said to have “forcibly dispersed the crowd,” who changed their location to elude cops.

By Wednesday (Nov. 7) afternoon, representatives from the school responded to the incident. “The reports of the use of racial language by some have been confirmed by our campus police. The University leadership strongly condemns this kind of behavior and is embarrassed that any students associated with the university would use this kind of language,” said Ole Miss chancellor Daniel W. Jones in a letter. “Our university creed calls for the respect of each individual and for fairness and civility. The investigation of this event will be thorough and individuals found in violation of any law will be referred to appropriate authorities.”

The university is no stranger to race wars. In 1962 a riot erupted when a Black student named, James Meredith, integrated into the all-white school.
