Another week brings additional drama for the Lyon household on FOX’s hit drama Empire. Lucious has already dropped several bombs in the form of emotionally and financially disowning Jamal, revealing his ALS to Anika, and foolishly betting Hakeem won’t be a struggle artist.
Meanwhile, this week brings some revelations about how Cookie got an early release from prison, and who’s really down to do some dirt in order to take over Lucious’ empire. We also get to hear Terrence Howard use the word “THOT” on national television. Let the viewing begin!

Put A Ring On It
Not only has Lucious revealed his illness to Anika, he proposed in grand fashion last night with an assist from Anthony Hamilton.
My Girl Got A Girlfriend
Now we see why Tiana wasn’t pressed to see Hakeem creeping with Camilla. She’s partaking in some swirly girl-on-girl action with a Becky named India.
Ghetto A** Studio
Cliché Alert: Jamal is recording in “the bad part of town” at a place named Ghetto A** Studio. Of course, this aspect is hyped up by the bullet holes in the studio door and Cookie’s warning that Jamal needs to watch his back (*cough* foreshadowing).
Criminal Minds
What’s the key to Lucious appeasing Anika’s “bourgie debutante” parents? It starts with Dr. Calhoun forging a clean bill of health even though he thinks Lucious is a criminal. The forgery can bring Empire’s IPO one step closer and you know pops is on board with making his daughter a billionaire. So now who’s the criminal?
Drippity Drop It Like It’s Hot
Either Lucious is a mastermind or he’s already experiencing early signs of dementia, because Hakeem is that hot garbage. “Drippity Drop?” That’s what we’re doing now?
Wilting Roses
Not only is Cookie dry-snitching for a reduced sentence, she has incredibly poor judgment when it comes to Frank Gathers-related matters. Thou shalt not buy from federal agents. She engages in some goon behavior to cover herself after mistaking Lucious’ rose for a threat from Frank’s guy, Teddy McNally. So between a potential war with Frank’s people and turning states evidence on Lucious, Cookie is looking at hard time or pushing up some flowers while six feet underground.
God Loves Us
It’s pretty clear Rhonda is one of Empire’s real Gs. She convinces Andre to flip some footage of India and Tiana (who’s dumb enough to make out with her side chick with any Lyon family member around) to a tabloid, and voila! Now he has the necessary bands to finance Hakeem’s terrible music or blackmail Cookie. And he put himself one step closer to running the family business.
What Up, Sissy?
Meanwhile, Andre convinces Hakeem’s dumb, gooned out buddies to rob Jamal of $20,000 worth of imaginary jewelry. Being the idiot that he is, Raheem slips up and mentions the watch that Jamal isn’t wearing during the botched robbery, and now the setup is complete. Jamal thinks Hakeem set him up, and now the team has beef between the post and the point. Just for good measure, Hakeem gets a gut punch from Jamal.
It’s Trigonometry
Actually, it’s more like a pubic triangle. But, now we see why Cookie and Lucious used to work so well together. They manipulated Tiana and their dumb as dirt offspring Hakeem—the only hedonistic entertainer too stupid to spot an obvious threesome opportunity—in the span of five minutes.
Smell The Roses
So we end things with some implied sexual tension between Lucious and Cookie, and beef between Hakeem and Jamal. No one knows Andre is running interference in the background, and no one knows that Cookie is both snitching and plotting while all this beef is simmering. Next week should be interesting.
