It’s been an interesting 28 days in the rap game. As if it weren’t awkward enough that Black History Month just happens to fall on the shortest month in the year, the reindeer games of some of your favorite rap stars over the last 28 days has done little to make the situation better.

Started in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, and later expanded, it seems that the rap world could care less about toning down the coonery in honor of Black History Month. Call it a disconnect to their own history, or reckless disregard, but imagine if rappers decided to keep it cool for the entire month, so as to not make the Black community look bad, or reinforce negative stereotypes.  Seems far-fetched, right? Yeah, we think so too.

In looking over some of the news stories Hip-Hop Wired has thrown up throughout this month, we’ve come to the conclusion that some could literally care less about Black History Month, or what it means. Because we offer you the best of all worlds (politics, music, culture, and more) we wanted to point out some of the interesting moves made by more than a few big names in the Hip-Hop world, and the their timing couldn’t be more unfortunate. Take a look at 10 rappers who made us look bad during Black History Month.

We still have love for them, but there’s no harm in a little criticism.

Kanye West

Listen he loves to rant, and that’s cool. But lashing out at the president, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, the media, and anyone else in his crossfire only adds to the “angry Black man” stereotype. Maybe he could’ve just made a visit to his shrink instead?

Trinidad James

No disrespect, but if this man is representing the Black community, that’s just…..

Chris Brown & Rihanna

Funny how whenever Breezy’s assault on Rih Rih is brought up, he’s immediately called a rapper. Why? Because rappers beat women, of course. We would turn our anger towards those that unfairly label him, but when the woman you beat goes to your probation hearing with you, it makes Black love look great.

The Entire Cast Of Love & Hip-Hop New York

We don’t really need to explain this one.

Ja Rule

Getting released from prison, only to begin your other prison sentence? That’s just great.

Tyler The Creator

The debate over the n-word, and its origin, has clearly gone over Tyler’s head. He’s young, so we can’t totally fault him, but giving White people a pass to use the word (that in all honesty, we should’t be spewing ourselves) wasn’t the best move. It’s Black History Month!

Nicki Minaj

For years Black women have been looked as nothing more than s*x objects, Nicki Minaj and her pasties are committed to making sure that never changes.

The Game

Yes Game, please teach the world how to throw up gang signs. That’s a great idea.

Cam’ron

Posting a photo of your girlfriend while she was riding his…., isn’t misogynistic at all. Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, and a bunch of our prolific ancestors would be very proud of this objectification tactic (sarcasm).

Lil Poopy

The name, the woman whose a** he’s slapping, the fact that he’s only nine years old….we could go on, but there’s really no need.

Lil Wayne

There’s no way to get around it, Wayne’s line about Emmitt Till was disgusting, distasteful, and disrespectful. To make a mockery of the murder of this young man is unforgivable, but had Weezy had enough respect to offer an apology maybe that would help smooth things over. Instead, he made sure to say sorry to LeBron James for including him in his anti-Miami Heat rant. Ridiculous.

Jess Jackson Jr. & Sr.

Nothing in particular here, you know, aside from using $750,000 in campaign money to buy personal items, and living up to the notion that Black men are crooks. His dad isn’t helping the situation either. Never has.
