In just three weeks, director Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby film update will hit theaters nationwide. The soundtrack boasts big names such as will.i.am., Q-Tip, Fergie, and others. Jay-Z, an executive producer for the soundtrack, had fans turning heads when it was announced the project would featuring an original song from the rapper. A snippet of the track, “100$ Bill,” hit the Internets via iTunes today along with a resurfacing Andre 3000 joining Hov’s better half, Beyoncé, for a cover of Amy Winehouse‘s “Back To Black.”
“New heroines, new Marilyns/Move coke through Maryland/Through Easton, oh you beastin’/Move fat packs, Jack Gleason/The honeymoon’s over with the streets, yeah/Least see my kids on the weekend/Carter, new Kennedy/No ordinary Joe, you’ll remember me,” raps Jay-Z in a frantic, double-timed flow. The bouncy backing track sounds fit for the clubs and harkens back to Jay’s days working alongside Timbaland.
Beyoncé has worked with Andre 3000 previously, with the pair joining forces on “Party” off her last solo record, 4. “Back To Black” is much more somber affair, and the snippet opens with the Outkast rapper’s haunting vocals. After a brief bridge, Queen B comes through with whispered vocals and takes the track to another level.
The Great Gatsby opens in theaters on May 10, with the soundtrack seeing release earlier in the week on May 7. Originally clocking in at 14 tracks, a 17-track deluxe version will also be available exclusivity at Target as well.
