New Jersey is on the verge of taking the controversial step to legalize marijuana.

Governor Jon Corzine is expected to sign a bill legalizing the use of medical marijuana into legislation before the end of his term next week.

Under the law “marijuana cards” will be distributed to patients with debilitating medical conditions to use the substance and not be prosecuted.

To get the card a patient must show they have severe or chronic pain or that they suffer from other symptoms such as nausea, seizures, muscle spasms or “wasting” syndrome.

The New Jersey Senate voted 25-13 in favor of the final legislation.

With the new law driving while high and growing the substance in your home will still also be illegal.
