A small town police officer is at the center of a controversy involving the 1988 anti-cop song “F-ck Tha Police” from old-school rap crew, N.W.A. Police Chief Jeff Jaran of Provincetown, Mass. in Cape Cod was visiting a pub when the establishment played the offensive track. The Town Manager has launched an investigation regarding the incident.
According to a report from the Cape Cod Times, Jaran visited The Squealing Pig on May 7 for a post-election victory party of Selectman-elect Thomas Donegan. Jaran reported last Friday (June 14) that after he greeted Donegan, he and a friend sat at the bar for drinks. Shortly after, the N.W.A. track played over the speakers.

A song by N.W.A. began to play. Jaran said he was not familiar with the song, but as he listened he became uncomfortable and offended. He said he told a restaurant employee to shut the song off and added that the person should be ashamed. Jaran said he and his friend regularly go to The Squealing Pig and he called the owner the next day and the issue was resolved.
There was also mild speculation the playing of the song was not a coincidence. Donegan had been critical of the police during his campaign but claims there was no malice intended by he or anyone on his staff. Town Manager Sharon Lynn is looking into the matter; this after an emailed copy of an apology letter from The Squealing Pig to Jaran was sent to her inbox.
“I have been speaking to all parties involved to ascertain if there was any inappropriate behavior involving those present,” Lynn said to the Times on Friday.
