Although no progression has been made in the Yasiin Bey/Mos Def barring back into the United States, one of the rapper’s oldest running mates isn’t allowing himself to believe the hype circulating around the rumors.
Talib Kweli, the other half of Black Star, briefly addressed the situation in between mourning the death of Maya Angelou. From his perspective, all the speculation that followed the initial factual report that the famed actor/rapper was indeed barred from reentry into the U.S.A., is nothing but gossip.
“I haven’t spoken on Yasiin cuz it seemed obvious to me that these rumors are unsubstantiated lies. But y’all believe blogs so I must,” he began via his Twitter account. “Think about you’ve read about Yasiin. Does it make sense? No it doesn’t. Do you own research if you that concerned. Stop believing blogs. No need to get up in arms. Yasiin is, in the words of Dave Chappelle, chillin out in South Africa #mandelavoice.”
Together with Kweli, the artist formerly known as the mighty Mos Def released their only collaboration album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star in 1998 to universal acclaim. Bey was to embark on a North American tour but had to cancel it following the abrupt announcement he was forbidden from coming home.
