The New York Rangers needed a healthy dose of fan support as they headed back to Madison Square Garden down 0-2 in the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals.
They got that and more as celebrities such as Jimmy Fallon, Kelly Ripa and Oscar Award-winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. came out to cheer them on.
Unfortunately it was all in vain as the Los Angeles Kings shut them out on their home rink, 3-0 to go just that in the championship series.
ESPN points out that the Rangers had 32-15 shots advantage over the Kings but still went 0-for-6 on their power plays. One more game and the Kings will be become 2014 World Champions.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (who was also in attendance) made a friendly wager with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti that appears he’s going to lose. With a Kings Stanley Cup win, he’ll have to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and belt on Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” on national television. Garcetti would have had to perform Frank Sinitra’s “New York, New York” with a Rangers win but the Old Blue Eyes karaoke most likely will remain unearthed.
Peep the all the famous faces that came out to give the NHL a ratings boost in the gallery.
