A teacher’s assistant in Texas is now without a job after she was accused of using a racial slur against a high school student.

According to reports, student Rodney Thomas was helping a coach put chairs away in a gym without a hall pass on April 19 when the teacher’s assistant spotted him. During the heated confrontation, the student states that the teacher’s aide called him a “Nig*A”

The 19-year-old’s mother Dinah Thomas is pleased with the school’s decision, but insists it should have taken place that day.

“It should’ve been nipped in the bud that day.” Ms. Thomas states, “We went up there and she said it. I was just shocked that a school professional would even be using that word.”

Although initially the high school released a statement saying that they wouldn’t make a decision until a full investigation was completed, Tammie-Lang Campbell, the former president of the Fort Bend chapter of the NAACP, states that she obtained a copy of the termination letter advising the aide that her services were no longer needed.

“I commend HISD for taking the stand against the use of the ‘N-word,’ but at the same time I question the severe punishment the teacher’s aide received,” said Lang-Campbell.

Reportedly, the teacher’s union mirror the statement made by Lang-Campbell as the president of the union stated they will appeal the outcome.

They have always said it is two sides to every story but it will be interesting to see how this turns out.
