We found it odd that Waffle House was tweeting, much less from their verified account (they can afford Internet?). But on Tuesday morning (July 1), the regional breakfast icon sent out a slew of posts urging Americans to boycott the Belgian (not Belgium) waffle in anticipation of today’s U.S.-Belgium fĂștbol game.
Despite that the Belgian waffle is not really a cultural delicacy and only largely popular in North America (as opposed to the actual country of Belgium), Waffle House declared war against the square breakfast treat as a sign of patriotism for Team USA.
It didn’t take long for Twitter to catch on and join in on the barrage of slander against the Belgium team and their not-so-much native dish.
