LeBron James’ homecoming back to the Cleveland Cavaliers has traveled full circle.
The city’s Prodigal Son announced that he will once again don the jersey number 23 to kick off the 2014-2015 season and he offered up mathematical reasoning as to why in an Instagram post.
“23 it is! It’s only right I go back,” he exclaimed. “2·3=6 We still family 6. #HomeTeam #StriveForGreatness.”
The sum of six refers to the jersey number that James wore during his four-year tenure with the Miami Heat, where he won two championships after infamously darting away from the Cavaliers.
James recently signed a two-year, $42.1 million contract with his old team during the free agency period. Sports analysts don’t predict he will leave again, instead, using the short-term commitment to demand leverage as he sees fit.
