Only Nicki Minaj can turn a wardrobe malfunction into a positive headline. But was her latest beef with her clothes actually staged?
During Sunday’s 2014 MTV VMA Awards, Nicki joined Jessie J and Ariana Grande onstage for the hit single “Bang, Bang.” Instead of simply stealing the show with her double-timed delivery, the “Anaconda” star was noticeably clinging on to her little, black dress for dear life. One slip of hand could have resulted in our her goodies spilling out but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
A performer who was backstage post-performance told The Hollywood Reporter that the clock was their enemy in the situation alleging, “We ran out of time getting the dressed zipped up.”
However, TMZ is reporting quite the opposite.
Nicki Minaj CLAIMS her dress was unzipped during her performance at the VMAs because she didn’t have enough time to get ready … but that’s BS — she pulled the same stunt during rehearsals.
Eyewitnesses who watched Nicki’s rehearsal Sunday morning tell TMZ … she walked on stage wearing the same dress — unzipped. One eyewitness says it caught her eye because she initially thought Nicki had come out in a robe.
We’re told Nicki was wrapping her arms around the dress in a “weird” sort of way … trying to manipulate it to see how much would be exposed.
And we’re told … the VMAs created a make-shift dressing room right off stage — draped with black sheets — so she would have enough time to change.
Whatever, it worked … everyone’s talking about it.
Nicki also brushed it off via her Instagram account: “God is good. As long as a nipple didn’t come out to play, I’m fine. Love my team.”
Regardless of the authencity of the Nicki Minaj VMA wardrobe malfunction, you have to agree that she looked good.
