So to speak. According to recent stats, the NYPD obeyed recommended course of action, following a civil complaint, only about 9.7 percent of the time. Somehow, we’re not surprised “New York’s finest” are rarely penalized for police brutality or misconduct.
Via WNYC:
In 2012 overall, the NYPD followed the CCRB’s recommendation in only 25 out 258 cases (9.7%). Officers received no discipline at all in 104 cases (40.3%).
The Civilian Complaint Review Board, the agency responsible for investigating complaints filed against the NYPD, recommends three different courses of action, depending on how serious the case is. These include: charges, discipline and instruction. Needless to say, NYPD almost never complies.
