The perplexing news of Too $hort packing a loaded gun in his carry-on luggage at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California desperately needed some clarification, and now we have it. The legendary rapper (real name Todd Shaw) was a good sport about the situation when he decided to call into TMZ Live and get a good ribbing from Harvey Levin & Co.

Contrary to the initial assumption that a West Coast gangsta rapper had complete disregard for the law and just wanted to pack heat in public, $hort explained that a “really rough weekend of Vegas partying” enabled the blunder.

“Damn, did I pack the wrong bag?,” he recalled pondering when he began to see more and more TSA agents arrive to the bag scanning area. Once it all clicked, $hort alleges he “walked very slowly” back to his car to talk to his lawyer. Naturally he was looking to avoid the celebrity/paparazzi scene but the police official he spoke with told him he should have come clean right away and he would have still been able to board the plane. Surprisingly–and unbeknownst to $hort–the offense is only a misdemeanor and punishable by a small fine in court.
