One of Hip-Hop’s most promising newcomers, Tink, finally sat with The Breakfast Club to discuss her rise, how she connected with Timbaland, and more.
Songs like “Ratchet Commandments” and “Around the Clock” have given listeners of the rapper and singer’s musical range. But here’s a rare opportunity to hear the MC’s thoughts off of wax.

Drill No More
Tink felt like being a part of Chicago’s then bubbling “Drill” movement was necessary, but she quickly learned that wasn’t her.
The Message
Like Kendrick, Tink understands that she’s here to share a message.
Pressure Cooker
Tink hears comparisons to greats like Lauryn Hill. But she embraces the pressure, because confidence. Not arrogance.
There’s Room For Everyone
Tink doesn’t believe that only one woman MC can flourish at a time. Why should you?
A$$ Shots
Tink admits that she wanted to cop gear and get her teeth fixed when she got her deal. Fortunately, both she and her team said it was quiet for a$$ shots.
Ratchet Commandments
Timbaland’s protege addressed people who thought “Ratchet Commandments” shamed women. “I was talking to myself, three years ago,” she said about the record. Not to mention that men are mentioned on the cut.
Gang Related
Tink reveals that young women in Chicago are pressured to join gangs just like men. Fortunately, she didn’t succumb.
Timbo, The King
Tink essentially spoke her collaborative relationship with Timbaland into existence. She saw Nyemiah Supreme’s “Rock & Roll,” which he produced, and wondered how a woman rapper connects with him. A week later he discovered her.
The One
During Tink’s FADER Fort performance at SXSW 2015, Timbaland claims that Aaliyah came to him in a dream and ordained her “the one.” Not the next Aaliyah. Don’t get it confused.
Bars
This is more so a reminder than a new discovery. Tink freestyled, and she went ballistic.
