With the second season of Empire right around the corner, the show’s top two stars in Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard did not disappoint in shedding positive attention on their venture during the season finale of Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle.
Taraji instantly made like Cookie and didn’t play fair during her performance of Mary J. Blige’s classic “Just Fine,” when she brought out the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul herself midway through the number for added effect. Howard didn’t have a fighting chance of topping that cameo but he did remind everyone why he is a A-list actor talent with a convincing impression of Boyz II Men’s “I’ll Make Love To You.” Seeing that he’s a recent divorcee yet again, there was plenty of conviction in his stage presence regarding the song’s subject.
For the second round, Howard inexplicably dressed up like Rick James to perform The Commodore’s “Brick House” while Taraji went the glam route with Madonna’s eternal “Material Girl.”
All in all, regardless who was crowned victor, Empire has won yet again.
