Because the video was taken on the responding officer’s dash cam the preceding events that led to the slam were not captured, but regardless of what led to the action, Paris Police Chief Bob Hundley states that the officer’s behavior was uncalled for.

“I think this is a case where the emotions got the best of him,” Hundley said. “I definitely think that the situation was a result of emotions and frustration but bottom line is he was out of line.”

Although Gill was not seriously injured he was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released prior to going to jail. The officer in the case, whose name is being withheld, was suspended for three days without pay.

Hundley assures the public that brutality complaints are handled “very seriously”.

“We take each complaint very seriously,” Hundley continued. “We investigate each claim to see its validity and this case; I feel personally it’s valid.”

Gill however feels that the punishment was not harsh enough.

“It was good that he was punished,” Gill said. “But I don’t think it was good enough to stop him from doing it again.”

As of press time there was no word on whether Gill was pursuing a lawsuit.
