Donald Trump‘s Presidential campaign got tons of media coverage, but do we actually know what he was saying the whole time?
Trump‘s campaign featured plenty of highs and lows that both received media coverage by way of soundbites. We all know that he wants to build a wall on the U.S./Mexico border to keep illegal immigrants out and that he wants to put a “total and complete” ban on Muslims entering the country figures out “what the hell is going on.” But beyond those two lightning rods of his campaign, what else has he proposed and promised?
Here is a list of some of the things he says he will deliver as President. Disclaimer: These words are coming out of the same mouth that promised Americans they will “do so much winning” and “grab them by the p*ssy.” So take them at face value.
1.) He Wants To Legalize Medical Marijuana
Trump is in favor of legalizing medical marijuana. As far as recreational use, he feels that it should be left up to states to decide and that the federal government should stay out of it.
2.) Trump Is Pro-Choice, For Schools
Back in September, Trump presented a $20 billion school choice plan that would be designed to help parents and students from poor communities attending struggling public schools or as he called them, “failing government schools,” attend charter and private schools. He says he will redirect federal money to the states and leave it up to them decide if the money would be used to put kids in better public, private, charter or magnet schools. Detractors of the plan pointed out that Trump never identified what federal government plans would have to be cut or altered to pay for this. Hillary for America senior policy adviser Maya Harris told Poltico that the “proposal could strip funding from up to 56,000 public schools serving more than 21 million children” and it “might only serve 1.4 million students, while stripping funding from the other 10.5 million low-income students in America.” Education experts have also side-eyed the plan saying that if the federal government starts paying for education, they will eventually start controlling it completely.
3.) Trump Wants Guns At School With Your Kids
So, if Trump does get that plan approved, he’s going to secure with gunpower. Trump promised to get rid of gun-free school zones. Earlier this year he told his supporters in Vermont, “I will get rid of gun-free zones on schools. My first day, it gets signed, okay? My first day. There’s no more gun-free zones.” Of course, that was enough to satisfy his rabid, gun-loving fanbase.
4.) Trump Will Bring Christmas Back
The religious right, that includes your Jesus-loving grandmother too, have been complaining about how hard it is to find Christmas cards that actually say “Christmas” on it as of late. They’ve even been complaining about how the greeters at the grocery store say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas.” Like Plies said, “ain’t no Crimmus ‘Bih.” However, Trump says that if he is elected President, he’s going to make sure people say “Merry Christmas” again. That’s important, isn’t it?
5.) Trump Will Fight ISIS And Terrorism By Policing The Internet
Trump has an idea about how to fight terrorism, lock some doors on the internet. His plan, call people like Bill Gates and get them to use their superpowers to turn off some of the internet so they can keep suspected and potential terrorists from operating.
6.) Trump Wants Paid Leave For New Mothers
Trump has promised six weeks of paid leave to new mothers. The Washington Post reports that Trump’s plan “will rewrite the tax code to allow working parents to deduct from their income taxes child-care expenses for up to four children and elderly dependents.” In addition to that, the plan will support paid leave deduction will “average cost of care” on a state-by-state basis and will not available to people who make more than $250,000, or couples earning more than $500,000. The plan is also supposed to help stay-at-home parents deduct their expenses and revise their federal savings accounts so that people can set aside money specifically for child development and education.
7.) Trump Wants To Help Sick Veterans
Trump says that he will get rid of “the corrupt and incompetent” leaders of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and allow vets to take their military ID cards to any medical facility that accepts Medicaid patients to receive care. He also says he will help vets get back adjusted to civilian life by increasing funding for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries and mental health issues.
