In the midst of promoting the latest installment of MTV’s “Making the Band” reality series, Diddy’s getting hit with a lawsuit. Singer Kirby Shields is suing Diddy and his Bad Boy Empire for copyright infringement stemming from the release of the Day 26 song, “Just Getting Started.” The song was included on Day 26’s Forever And A Day album and according to Shields is identical to his song, “I’m Just Getting Started.” Both songs are the product of producer Christian Davis Stalnecker. Shields filed court documents saying that he paid Stalnecker to produce for him exclusively in 2007. He also claims that he made the producer sign an agreement not to “reuse, resell or profit” from any of the songs without his consent. Stalnecker is included in the lawsuit as well. Day 26’s Forever And A Day album sold 113,000 copies in its first week.
In related news, Diddy is getting back into the Hip-Hop scene with his latest project, rapper Red Café. Red Café is set to debut his album later on this year through a 50/50 collaboration between Bad Boy and Akon’s record label, Konvict Muzik. His mixtape Welcome To Bad Boy was released in May. He got his first state of national notoriety with the release of his single “Hottest In The Hood” which featured Diddy, Jadakiss, Rick Ross, Fabolous and OJ Da Juiceman on the remix.
