The U.S. Senate has voted 68 to 31to confirm Sonya Sotomayor. The decision will make her the first Hispanic and third female to serve on The Supreme Court. Nine Republicans also crossed party lines to conform her confirmation.

Sotomoyer is President Obama’s first Supreme Court nominee and will become the 111th justice. Obama spoke on the vote stating that he’s “pleased and deeply gratified “with her Senate confirmation. He added, “With this historic vote, the Senate has affirmed that Justice Sotomayor has the intellect, the temperament, the history, the integrity and the independence of mind to ably serve on our nation’s highest court.”
