As elections for local representatives popping up in your city, many people will ignore the election while many will take part in it. With poverty being an increasing problem in the United States, the only place we can start with is our local government to fix the problem.
Check out the Top 10 Poorest Cities to see what cities need to take action fast, and make sure to speak your thoughts on what these cities need to do.
Click the page #’s below to see the list.
10. Newark , NJ
With the poverty rate of 24.2%, Newark, New Jersey ranks the poorest of many different Jersey cities. Although, many are familiar of the fun loving Atlantic City and Jersey Shore, many are not familiar that Jersey has three cities that rank poorest in the top 50 cities.
9. Philadelphia, PA
Philadelphia making its 2nd appearance on the list within the past 3 years has a poverty rate of 25.1%.
Can you imagine that 1 out of every 4 people in that city is homeless? Smh….
8. Milwaukee , WI
Seeing Milwaukee on this list was pretty surprising, however, the 26.2% poverty rate is what is probably most surprising. As the only city in Wisconsin to make the top 50 list, it is obvious government officials aren’t doing something with this city that they are doing to the rest.
7. El Paso , TX
Along with it’s 26.4% poverty rating, El Paso also made our list of top 10 most obese cities.
How do you have a city that is 75% obese and 25% not being fed at all?!
6. St. Louis , MO
St. Louis is no stranger to the list and with an increasing poverty rate that has reached a terrible 26.8%.
With African American’s being close to 52% of that poverty rate, it is obvious that St. Louis should stop worrying about over paying rookie QB’s and focus on cleaning up their city.
5. Miami , FL
Between The Miami Heat and the Kardashians, the way the media portrays Miami, it is hard to believe they have a 26.9% poverty rate.
However, if you have ever been to Miami then you would know that poverty comes with the territory, and you will see a homeless person every 10 steps you take on Collins.
4. Cleveland , OH
Cleveland is just a bad city to live in.
With a 27.0% poverty rate, Cleveland tops the top 5 on poorest and most crime committed cities.
However, Ohio has more problems than Cleveland because as we look at our number 4 on the list we see…..
3. Cincinnati , OH
Like it’s brother city Cleveland, Cincinnati also has a high poverty rate of 27.8%.
While some states can focus on city local governments, I think Ohio needs to focus on the state as a whole. A state that counts so much during the presidential race shouldn’t be in this poor of a condition.
2. Buffalo , NY
Although New York has a lot of problems with crime and poverty, Buffalo’s 29.9% poverty rate showcases that maybe New York City isn’t their only problem.
Buffalo has slowly every year increased in its poverty level, and by next year is predicted to be somewhere around 31.5%, are we soon to expect the same from other New York cities?
1. Detroit , MI
Is this one even a surprise? With a poverty rate of 32.5%, Detroit is easily the poorest city in America.
The motor city has been on a down slope for years now, and when some of it’s major jobs and resources like GM close down, what can we expect?
What can we do to help cities like Detroit and the others on this list?
