A former youth group leader in Australia, who has been convicted of raping an 11-year-old boy reportedly told his victims that the sexual assaults were not against the teachings of the church.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Simon Antony Jacobs was a youth group leader in the Church of England Boys Society (CEBS) on Sydney’s north shore during the 1970s and 1980s. During this period, he repeatedly assaulted two boys involved in the group.

Jacobs, then 25, was convicted of raping one of the boys regularly at his mother’s home during the ‘70s and ‘80s.

When the boy challenged Jacobs, saying he had read in the Bible that men should not have sex with men, Jacobs told the youth it was OK because, “they were not making babies.”

Another victim accused Jacobs of assaulting him while they shared a tent during a CEBS outing in 1983.

Jacobs reportedly befriended the boys’ parents in order to get closer to their children and hosted sleepovers for the boys and gave them gifts.

He reportedly also made the boys shave their pubic hair and took nude photos of them.

Jacobs pled guilty to four charges against two boys.

Sentencing is set for March 4, 2011.
