Cam Newton Skipping Season For The NFL Draft

Auburn junior quarterback and landslide Heisman award winner, Cameron Newton has decided to forego his senior season and declare himself eligible for the 2011 NFL Draft.

The 6’6″ 250 lb Newton rushed for 1,473 yards and 20 touchdowns while passing for 2,854 yards and 30 TDs this season.

He also set Auburn season records for rushing and passing TDs by a quarterback, then capped off an undefeated year beating Oregon for the BCS title on Monday night.

“It’s been a blessing for me to be a part of something so great,” Cam expressed in a statement yesterday.

This great blessing came after continuous controversy that has yet to disappear totally.

In 2008, Cam left Florida University after an injury, alleged theft of another student’s laptop and an accusation of three instances of academic cheating.

He landed in Blinn College in Texas in 2009 and won the NJCAA National Football Championship.

His victories and awards were almost marred this season with claims that his father Cecil Newton had sought substantial amounts of money from colleges before Cam had chosen Auburn.

Investigations are ongoing and Newton’s Heisman Trophy would be rescinded if evidence is found against him but right now his sights are set on the future.

He is expected to go in the first round of the draft but NFL experts question his accuracy, his dependency on his running ability and lack of pro-style offense experience.

However, Auburn coach, Gene Chizik thinks his star quarterback will have minimal problems making the transition calling him “probably the best football player I’ve ever seen” after the Southeastern Conference championship game.
