Tyler Perry, Alan Mulally, Chris Rock, Malaak Rock To Be Honored At Steve Harvey Foundation Gala
Award winning actor and playwright Tyler Perry will be honored by his peers April 4, 2011 at Steve Harvey’s 2nd annual Steve Harvey Foundation Gala.
Along with Perry, Ford Motor Company’s President and CEO Alan Mulally, and actor/comedian Chris Rock and his wife Malaak Rock will be honored as well.
The foursome will each receive Harvey’s “Helping Hand” award at New York’s Cipriani Wall Street from Harvey himself and his co-host ‘The View’s’ Sherri Shepherd.
The Helping Hand Award is said to honor those who extend their hands on a continual basis to ensure that, at the end of their time, they have done their fair share to help their fellow man.
Inaugural honorees include Geoffrey Canada of Harlem Children’s Zone, Pamela El of State Farm, and award-winning actor and director Denzel Washington, with gala proceeds benefiting the Steve Harvey Foundation’s cornerstone program, the Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men.
Harvey has released a statement on his upcoming gala saying,
“It’s an honor to present Helping Hand Awards to Tyler Perry, Alan Mulally, and Chris and Malaak Rock this year…It’s often hard to recognize an opportunity without knowing your dream first, and these four individuals have made a great impact on communities large and small, courageously and selflessly sharing their dreams and their achievements.
Their leadership continues to empower and inspire us as well as future generations, on creating your own opportunities and blazing a trail for others. Sherri Shepherd has also served as an inspiration to so many, and bringing our humor together as co-hosts will surely be a must-see evening that brings out the best comedy from both of us!”
