Skippy Peanut Butter Recalls Reduced Fat Spreads

Manufactures of the national peanut butter brand Skippy recalled a number of their products yesterday (March 6) for fear that product may contain salmonella.

Flavors that could be affected include 16.3-ounce jars of Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread and Skippy Reduced Fat Super Chunk Peanut Butter Spread.

The possibly tainted jars were sent to 16 states including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The affected jars have bar-code numbers 048001006812 and 048001006782 and “used by” dates ranging from May 16 through 21.

Skippy urges consumers in possession of jars with these bar-codes to call the Englewood Cliffs, NJ, company at (800) 453-3432 for a replacement coupon.

According to the manufacturer there have been no peanut butter related illnesses reported as of yet.
