Though it was a tough ending to a long season for Andre Igoudala and the Golden State Warriors, the defensive expert and his team have experienced their fair share of victories over the years so don’t feel too bad for them.
Yesterday the three-time NBA champ stopped by The Breakfast Club to promote his new memoire called The Sixth Man and sitting down with DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God opened up about different aspects of his life and career.
From talking about how the mind games his college coach played on him had landed him in therapy to revealing why the Warriors medical staff looks funny in the light, Andre proved that he’s a man who speaks with no hairs on his tongue.
Here are the 8 things we learned from Andre Igoudala on The Breakfast Club.

1. College Dayz

When Andre was playing college ball in the NCAA he remembers that because they weren’t allowed to work he’d have to stretch out $10 over a week. He also says that while today’s players get the perks of being fed daily, he and his teammate were only given free food on game day. Meanwhile the head of the NCAA is a millionaire. SMH.

2. Warriors Medical Staff Snafu
Talking about his own experience with the Warriors medical staff, Andre remembers when he fractured his leg in the playoffs last year, the Warriors were telling him and everyone else that all he had was a “bone bruise.” Aside from that shadiness, he also says people asking him “how you feeling?” and low-key pressuring him to play didn’t help the situation. KD was put through the same exact situation before rupturing his Achilles.

3. Steph Curry Hate
Andre feels that Steph Curry gets a lot of hate because “He’s light-skinned and he’s like the perfect dude. So they can’t find any flaws.” He also takes issue with people who say he’s a more clutch player than Stephy Curry. “Are you crazy… the dude got three rings. He was a unanimous MVP.”

4. Growing Up
Growing up, Iggy remembers his love for education and “when I went to school I was the only Black kid in my class all the time.” But when he got out of school he’d always be with his crew which had his white classmates asking “How do you know that person? He got arrested last week.”
5. Mark Jackson
Even though Mark Jackson was relieved of his coaching duties from the Warriors, Iggy says that was he was one of his “favorite coaches of all-time” and that Jackson’s method of coaching “was going to put you in the best position to get the most money. Like it was players who got paid because of him that shouldn’t have got paid.” As for the rumors that the religious coach forced them to go to church, Iguodala says that wasn’t true but does say he offered it to them as being that a lot of players on the team had believers, they all went to church as a team. That being said, Andre does feel that Mark Jackson is being blackballed around the league.
6. Mental Health
Andre reveals that he had insomnia in college due to the anxiety of his coach “holding me back mentally so I could stay longer.” It wasn’t until an agent asked to represent him that Andre learned he had a chance to go into the NBA even though his coach kept telling him he had to get better. He eventually sought help for his stress and educated himself on the human body and ended up going vegan and doing yoga.

7. Culture Shock
Iggy remembers talking with Kyle Korver and how surprised Kyle was that Iggy paid his parents bills. He asked Kyle if he paid his parents bills and Kyle said “No, why would I do that?” Another example of how different white and Black culture can be in different environments.
8. Momma Knows Best
Andre remembers when he was growing up his mother would always tell him “Stay Black” every time he would leave the house. “She was saying like ‘stay Black. Know who you are. Realize it.’” That’s why he always mentions race in various situations for whatever reasons.
