NJ School Named For Obama To Close
An elementary school in Asbury Park, New Jersey which was originally named the Bangs Avenue School was changed last year to the Barack H. Obama Elementary School. Due to a decline in enrollment however, the school will be shut down on July 1st.
Bruce N. Rodman, the state monitor who oversees the district’s finances, ordered that elementary students be reassigned to the city’s two other elementary schools.
There were plans to replace the school that has been in existence for over a century but that move has been halted.
“A decision had to be made to either support the superintendent’s grade reconfiguration or close down one of the buildings as a fulltime educational facility,” said board member Garrett Giberson.
A decision was made.
