Her 1998 solo debut The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill won five Grammy Awards and was critically and commercially accepted.
Lauryn’s personal life spilled into the music as she recorded songs about her issues with the Fugees, her relationship with Wyclef and her decision to keep her baby with the son of Bob Marley, Rohan. Five children later, they’re still together.
Lauryn disappeared for some years before recording an MTV Unplugged album in 2001, she experimented with a short lived Fugee reunion and is now making public appearances and has even sparked a mini-tour.
Lauryn Hill has faced criticism throughout her career for the lawsuit over production credit on her debut album, her strange hair and outfit choices during her shows as well as her tardiness to performances.
No matter what critics say about her, her talent and dedication to her fans cannot be denied and today we celebrate the life of a woman who has been a great influence as a writer and poet. Happy birthday Lauryn Hill.
