Every Halloween, folks risk their image and good taste to pull off zany outfits. Unfortunately the racism line gets crossed when people go the blackface route, as evidenced by a handful of top fashion designers in Milan at a party over the weekend.

Halloween, the time of the year of ghosts and ghouls, horror movies, trick or treating and the blissfully ignorant, or idiots, that think its open season on blackface. The latest to partake in the racist act (no matter the intent) is actress Julianne Hough.

Last Friday (August 30), global doughnut and coffee company Dunkin’ Donuts found itself under heavy criticism after a model in blackface was featured in an advertising campaign. A human rights group deemed the ad racist and raised a stir, thus prompting the company to pull and apologize for the advertisement.

Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov Hikind hosted a party over the weekend in honor of a Jewish holiday known as Purim. However, what turned heads was Hikind posting photos on Facebook with the elected official donning blackface and an afro wig – later defending the outfit on social media and his blog.

The parents of a second-grader at Meridian Ranch Elementary School in Peyton, Colo. should be stoned for sending their son to school in black face. The boy, Sean King, was of course told to remove the makeup, which he wore to portray Martin Luther King Jr. for a “Wax Museum Day” project.
