Two New York Streets Named After Civil Rights Leaders

The city of New York is paying homage to two pinnacle Black leaders whose actions sparked new opportunities for African Americans. Two streets in Harlem are being named after civil rights leaders W.E.B. Dubois and A. Phillip Randolph.

All of 145^th street has been renamed A. Phillip Randolph Boulevard in honor of the labor and political leader who founded the “March on Washington” movement.

Likewise, Bradhurst Avenue has been renamed W.E.B. Dubois Avenue running from 141^st street to 155^th street in honor of the infamous civil rights leader who helped found the NAACP.

Both men were longtime residents of the Harlem area.
