The man that penned the critically acclaimed HBO Series “The Wire” has passed away at the age of 48.

A spokesperson for HBO confirmed that writer David Mills died Tuesday of a brain aneurysm.

The network has since released a statement saying,

“”HBO is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our dear friend and colleague David Mills. He was a gracious and humble man, and will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him, as well as those who were aware of his immense talent. David has left us too soon but his brilliant work will live on.”

Mills was filming in New Orleans for the upcoming HBO series “Treme” when the tragedy took place.

He is also noted for writing for “ER”, “NYPD Blue,” “Kingpin” and HBO mini-series “The Corner.”
