Florida Church Still Planning Koran Burning, Pastor Says Jesus Would Join In

NEWS

A Florida pastor and his congregation are still planning to burn Korans on the anniversary of 9/11 this Saturday.

Pastor Terry Jones of Dove World Outreach Center is moving forward with the radical plans despite numerous death threats and criticism.

The pastor, who know carries a gun for protection, told ABC's Nightline that Jesus would approve of the message and join in.

“Jesus would not run around burning books, but I think he would burn this one.”

As previously reported, Jones and his estimated 50 church members declared their plans to burn Korans on Facebook in retaliation of Muslims who they believe are responsible for the terrorist attacks in America on September 11, 2001.

With the 9th anniversary of the attacks on the horizon, Pastor Jones says he and his followers are prepared for a fight and aren't dismayed over the possibility of violence.

We are definitely prepared to do this,” he told Nightline. “We are definitely prepared to give our lives for this particular message."

Jones is the author of the book “Islam Is The Devil” and also sells shirts and mugs with anti-Islamic messages.

Earlier this week General Petraeus, the top military official in Afghanistan, urged the church to reconsider saying that the book burning could put troops in danger.

Jesus was all about love. Jesus said love your enemies and He would not approve of burning the Qu'ran at all, not in the least bit. He wil be putting our troops in danger and that should make him accountable for any deaths.

This man is wrong, he needs t burn his personal bible cause nowhere in mine does it say anything like believe what I believe or else. Jesus loved everyone especially his enemies! NOTHING good will come from this if he goes thru with it and I pray he doesn't. So I guess he justifies the burning of any book including the holy bible! Boy this world not lookn like it'll be here too much longer or should I say we won't.

Jesus is one of the most named prophets in the Koran, so why would he approve of burning it

I implore this man not to carry out his act of defience by burning the Koran. I agree with some of his comments about the Muslim faith, but that does not give him the right to conduct this type of protest. I know some 'Muslims' have carried out similar protests, but that has also been condemmned. He is just reducing himself to the level of other evil persons. If he is indeed a religious man, a pastor or whatever, he should know that the Muslims God is the same God as the Christians, and they have the right to interpret the scriptures of the ancient wise men, and academics who allegedly wrote them, the way they wish, as all religions do.
God, or the Prophet Mohamed (peace be upon him) will not be pleased with the way this pastor is behaving, and what's more, to make a statement that Jesus would join in, is ridiculous ! In England, we protected Salman Rushdi for his opinion ( satanic verses) and therefore we must stand up and protect others rights to voice their opinions, and not to take physical steps to destroy such books if we dissagree with them.
This form of protest is illegal in our society and should be prevented by the authorities, and if he proceeds with this threat, he should be sent to prison.

Peace to all people of all faiths, let us strive for peace between all faiths and stop all this agression, it will lead no where good.

I say burn it. They want to use they new temple by ground zero to make a political point, so the pastor has every right to make his political point. Ppl got to look at the message that mosque would mean. Out of all the places to build a mosque they want to build it there by groung zero. You got to ask yourself WHY? It's to start trouble here in America. It's all a underhanded ploy to start trouble. I say if they want trouble give it to them.

They used Islam as a way to attack this country. And than want to put up a mosque near the same spot. Open your eyes ppl. Why put the mosque there. It's to mock the whole 911 incident. Who ever the developer is trust and believe they have shady motives.

I'm all for free speech and symbolism, but dude don't know what he gettin' himself into. Muslims don't play that shyt. He gon' wake up and find himself and his followers DEAD!!

Burning books sounds so familiar that someone has already made a “reminder” web site with a pretty funny collage that puts the Pastor on the cover of a well-known book: http://burnakoranday.net/

This is really ignorant and wasteful. That pastor should be fined or jailed for waste and pollution. What an embarr*****ment to Christians and Christianity. Who died and gave him the right to burn other peoples holy books in the name of Christianity? And how does he know what Jesus would have done? Go read your bible, pastor, especially the parts about forgiveness and turning the other cheek. You should not be preaching the Word. You only seem interested in preaching your political views and not offering guidance and bringing people closer to God, which is what a pastor and man of God should do (last time I checked)
Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they do.

  • What a shame

one in the end burns men.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.... don't worry, I'll wait!

Ignorance. Islam is about peace. He'd know that if he read it. All the negative accusations of it are taken completely out of context. He's burning a book he clearly hasn't read. He'll only look like an idiot and possibly put the nation in danger of those crazy extremists.

if he is a real cathalic then he would never do this...cuz there are many places in Quran where prophet jesus is mentioned and if he loves jesus ...he would never do this!!

first of all,its not a mosque that is being built its a cultural exchange center, and yes there is a place to pray in there as Muslims are obligated to pray 5 times a day.
Second, Those that committed 9/11 yes, there religion was Islam, however, can you blaim every Muslim for the crime of someone else?Third, Those that committed the act, did it as a political poi against american policy not a religious one.
There is no where in the Qur'an I repeat, no where it
said kill innocent people, This is a right wing media ploi
to use Islam as a skape goat.Should we blaim all of america, for every innocent casualties of families in Afganistan and Iraq during the war or in the past? off-course not! i'm not responsible for our political leaders mistakes and so is not Islam, its the american right wings, Zionist and alqaida
to blaim not islam or americans. That pastor just put troops lives in danger, for what, his own idiocracy!!!

"We are definitely prepared to give our lives for this message." That's just bone-chilling to me. It's a message of hate, and he's eager to die for it. How is he so different from the people he's trying to offend?
