Kelis hit with a lawsuit for unpaid fees
R&B songstress andNas’s ex wife Kelis has been hit with a lawsuit for allegedly failing to pay a talent agency for their service of representation.
Plaintiff Drive Talent Inc. filed the lawsuit in the Supreme Court of the State of New York claiming that the singer failed to pay them a sum of $11, 817.91, despite being booked on various shows including Jay Leno, the Today Show and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
The lawsuit also states that they worked with Kelis on a variety of television shows and non-televised appearances in the United Kingdom, and France among other countries.
According to a statement in the claim, Plaintiff Drive Talent was hired by Kelis and her management team between March 30th, 2010 and July 13th, 2010, the company claims that although Interscope paid the money to Kelis to pay for their services, she only made partial reimbursements for travel, labor and production items purchased for her appearances.
Although the agency is stating that they haven’t been paid, Kelis is singing a different tune.
In an interview with Allhiphop.com, Kelis claims that not only was the agency paid in full but they are filing he suit in order to get back at the songstress for a lawsuit she filed against the agency for using her name during an unauthorized European tour.
“Drive Talent has been paid in full for services rendered for the assistance in production for various TV performances,” a representative for Kelis said.
“Any claims stating otherwise is clearly an effort to gain press attention. The amount claimed to be owed is not for services rendered, which Drive Talent would like the public to believe, but over a dispute stemming from a European promotional run in which Drive Talent authorized the spend of close to $11,800 of the artist’s money to a vendor they hired without approval from either the artist or management.”
The singer also states that she is looking forward to the upcoming court date.
“We look forward to presenting our case in court and are confident once a review has been made of all evidence we have to support our argument that it will be clear Drive Talent has absolutely no ground whatsoever to stand on.”
