Lupe Fiasco Defends Presidential Opposition
Lupe Maintains Obama Critique
After harsh lyrics towards President Obama on a song off his Lasers album raised the eyebrows of many in the Black community, Lupe Fiasco is not only keeping his stance, he is defending it.
In a recent interview, Fiasco pointed out that his problem is not so much with Obama the person, but with government policy period, which he feels Obama has done nothing to change.
“I was never on the bandwagon of Obama like that, because I'm not on the bandwagon for the American Government, the Federal Government, says the rapper.
It's not all 100 percent evil, but it does a whole lot to not make you think that. The economical policies that are instigated really makes you think that the American government is a bunch of evil bastards. So just because you're black you're still representing that government, and when Obama came into office he enacted the same policies that we would critique other presidents for.”
“The people who are on your economic team and determine the economic polices for the rest of us are the same people who ran those financial institutions, the same people who were corrupt and could possibly face criminal charges, but he's the head of your economic thing. Honestly, what the Fawk is that? That's what you call a WTF. So I think the critiques are poignant."
He also says people are falsely giving Obama praise as the first President, pointing out that Robert Mugabe (President of Zimbabwe) has that distinction.
"I love Obama, and I love the fact that it's a black president of the United States of America, but he's not the first Black president, says Fiasco. “Robert Mugabe is a black president too so let's not get to talking about precedents being set. The fact that he's Black and American, that's different. But that it's anything special beyond that, that just because of that everything's going to be a utopia, then that's not true."
Lupe raised eyebrows when he spit,
"Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist, Gaza Strip was getting burned, Obama didn't say sh-t, That's why I ain't vote for him, next one either...," on the track “Things I Never Said” on his recently released LP Lasers.
Fiasco confirms the songs lyrics saying, "I haven't voted for anybody, for that matter. The American federal government, the American system, America's foreign policy is something I can't [support]. When you vote for that person, you vote for that."
Lupe's long delayed third studio album Lasers hit shelves Tuesday (March 8).
