During Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime performance, featured guest M.I.A. decided to flip the bird at the camera. The NFL promptly apologized for the snafu, blaming M.I.A., of course, and the NFL, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

“The NFL hired the talent and produced the halftime show,” NBC said in a statement. “Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologize to our viewers.”

In turn, the NFL blamed NBC. “There was a failure in NBC’s delay system. The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans.”

Who needs to get all the blame is M.I.A., who is no doubt now being proclaimed by mainstream media outlets as the epitome of Hip-Hop. That’s because, ya know, only rappers would raise up their middle finger on national television.
