Just Blaze Talks Jay Electronica, Upcoming Tracks & Early Attempts At Dance Music [VIDEO]
Justin “Just Blaze” Smith has enjoyed one of the most fruitful runs of any producer in recent time. Thirteen years in, Just has worked with some of the industry’s best, providing heaters to a laundry list of acts over the past decade and more. Sitting down with Hard Knocks TV, Mr. Blaze gets chatty about his early forays into making danceable Hip-Hop music, new artist XV and the elusive Jay Electronica.
“Jay moved out to London,” said Just Blaze of the largely inactive wordsmith. “He’s got a situation out there; he’s doing good out there. I personally can’t be out there; my life is here in the US. We’ve gotten back in the studio. We sat down, we chopped it up. But in terms of being heavily at work, we’re not really.”
The two are still friendly, but Just’s reluctance to go on a Jay Elec wild goose chase was apparent in the clip. “He’ll call me and be like, ‘Yo, come to London’ and I’m like ‘Dude, we made “Exhibit A” in an attic in Detroit.’ I don’t need to be in London, or at some exotic place in South Africa at some studio in the jungle with panthers outside my door.”
Warner Bros. signee XV got a major cosign from Just, and he’s worked on a handful of records with the Kansas rhyme slinger. “This kid has the potential to be one of the next ones,” said Just confidently.
Always thinking ahead, Just Blaze has upcoming work with Rick Ross, Canadian heartthrob Drake and he also mentioned a still unconfirmed remix project with an unnamed act the producer called the “biggest living Pop icon in the world right now.”
Just Blaze, can you at least text Jay Electronica and let him know he’s held his fans hostage long enough? At least bless us with 16 bars? Aren’t we worth it?
