Jesse Jackson Jr. has completed his in-patient treatment for bipolar disorder, but the medical bills are more than he can afford. The congressman quietly put his four-bedroom Victorian-style home on the market for $2.5 million nearly two weeks ago, and one day after returning back to Washington D.C.

A rep for Jackson released a statement on the story, Wednesday (Sept. 19). “Like millions of Americans, Congressman Jackson and Mrs. Jackson are grappling with soaring healthcare costs and are selling their residence to help defray costs of their obligations. The Congressman would like to personally thank everyone who has offered prayers on behalf of his family.”

Located in Dupont Circle, the townhouse is described as an “exquisite” unit, boasting amenities like a five levels, five fireplaces, a sunroom, two kitchens, and a top deck with a Jacuzzi.

Jackson took a leave of absence from his political post in early June. Amid speculation surrounding his unexplained absence, it was theorized that he was in rehab, another story reported that he was being treated for depression.

At his request, the Mayo Clinic released a statement revealing that Jackson was suffering from bipolar II disorder, which is caused by “a complex set of genetic and environmental factors.”
