Big L
Harlem upstart rapper, Big L was mercilessly murdered on February 15, 1999 near his Uptown stomping ground when he was shot nine times in the face and chest. Rumored motives for the killing vary from gang ties to mistaken identity. The most sustainable story indicates that L’s murder was a retaliation killing for a murder that was ordered by the rapper’s older brother. Gerald Woodley was later brought forth as a possible shooter but he was later released for lack of evidence. The murder remains unsolved.
