The Sermon’s Domain caught up with the legendary Young Guru at this year’s A3C weekend in Atlanta to discuss the Roc-A-Fella affiliate’s influence on engineering, why Barclays Center is very important to him, the reason we’ve never heard Jay-Z’s unreleased stash and even his work with Jay Electronica.

Having engineered 10 out of 11 Jay-Z albums, Young Guru is the keeper of the Brooklyn MC’s musical cannon. This includes his unreleased tracks as well, which Donaldson aptly inquires about.

“It’s not released for a reason. You know what I’m saying? So, there’s a quality control that we hold and we not going to, you know, serve no wine before its time,” said Young Guru. “It might not have fit on whatever record we was doing at that particular time, or we might not have felt the vibe of it after we finished it.  You know? Everybody wants to be like ‘Oh! I want to hear those records. I want to hear those records,’ but there’s a reason why we didn’t release them.”

Hear Young Guru detail why he believes the Barclay’s Center will benefit the Brooklyn community and the status of Jay Electronica’s seemingly mythical LP in the full interview below.
